History

Novosibirsk State Medical University (NSMU) (Russian: Новосибирский государственный медицинский университет, НГМУ) – a medical university in NovosibirskRussia for training qualified doctors

Novosibirsk University is a higher medical education institution in the Novosibirsk city of Russian Federation. In 1935 Novosibirsk University was established as a result of joint venture of the Novosibirsk Medical Institute of Postgraduate and Tomsk Medical Institute. At that time Novosibirsk Medical Institute was started with only one medical faculty, where 117 students were enrolled in first academic year.

In 1999 Novosibirsk Medical Institute became Novosibirsk State Medical Academy. On November 10, 2005 Novosibirsk State Medical Academy received the status of University and renamed into Novosibirsk State Medical University.

Currently Novosibirsk University has more than 1,700 employees. The Novosibirsk University has 8 faculties, 76 departments, 300 residents and 600 interns. Till date Novosibirsk University has trained more than 32 thousand students.

At NSMU the following institutes and centers function: the medical advisory center, institute of cosmetology, institute of internal medicine, advice of independent medical experts, the certified center, the central certifying commission in SFO, the international center, the district center of protection of motherhood and the childhood, a sports camp, publishing house Sibmedizdat (“Сибмедиздат”), a video studio Avitsenna (“Авиценна”) and others. Also, a newspaper and “Magazine of clinical and experimental medicine” is issued.
