Another season of short-term courses at Russian universities has ended. Under the conditions of quarantine restrictions, most of the classes and events were held online. We have prepared for you a selection with the results of the winter schools in 2021.

March 4, 2021 at Far Eastern Federal Universityended the two-week VII International School-Seminar Ice Mechanics, where students from different countries studied the physical and mechanical characteristics of ocean ice. The most memorable event of this school is the collection of material on the Russky Island. The guys got 64 samples of unique material, which they studied in modern laboratories of the International Scientific and Educational Center “Arktika”. The participants presented the results of the work at the final conference.

From February 15 to March 5, 2021, students from Venezuela, the Netherlands, Turkey, France and South Korea took part in the International Research School National Research University Higher School of Economics Russian Politics and International Affairs. The teachers separately noted the activity of students from France, Montenegro, Croatia and Japan. During the classes, the university actively used presentations and interactive exhibitions – the children took virtual tours of museums and the snow-covered center of St. Petersburg.

International Polytechnic Winter Online School, organized by Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University, became one of the largest this year and brought together over 150 foreign students from 20 countries of the world. Participants could choose from 21 programs in various directions and study engineering and natural sciences, information and digital technologies, the subtleties of civil engineering, energy, business and management, Russian language and culture. Upon completion of the courses, students received international certificates with ECTS credits, which they can use in their universities. As part of the cultural program, the children visited the SPbPU campus, the Hermitage and completed a quiz on the history of Russia – all in virtual mode. For SPbPU, this was the first experience of conducting a school in a distance format.

Ural Federal University named after the first President of Russia B.N. Yeltsin traditionally held courses in Russian language and culture Russian Studies in Real Russia and Intensive basic course of the Russian language for non-speakers. Guys from the USA, Mongolia, Hong Kong, China, Korea, Japan and Austria improved their Russian and took part in various events. The cultural program included lectures on the history of Russia and the USSR, linguistics and politics, workshops, online tours, acquaintance with cinema and ballet.
